At Middleton, every day begins with familiar faces that make our school feel like home. From cheerful greetings at the gate to the care that goes into keeping our community safe, every role contributes to the warmth and harmony of our campus.

To celebrate the people, stories, and moments that shape life at Middleton, our Secondary Years students have created a newsletter series, People Behind Middleton. This student-led initiative shines a spotlight on the individuals who work quietly behind the scenes to ensure that learning and life at Middleton run smoothly.

If you’ve ever been greeted with a friendly wave at the school gate, you’ve met Mr Vincent - our beloved security guard and unofficial campus cheerleader. Known for his calm presence, kind words and connection with everyone, we sat down with Mr. Vincent to learn more about the man behind the smile.

Meet Mr Vincent

1. How long have you been working at our school?

Over six years now!

2. What are some things you do that students might not notice?

I don’t just open the gates, I look after the whole school! I help make sure everything is safe and running smoothly while greeting the students and teachers who come in.

3. What’s one of your happiest moments here?

Interacting with different people and enjoying being part of the school community. It’s the little daily connections that mean a lot.

4. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

I love spending time with my pets, especially my cats and fish!

5. If you could have any superpower to help you at work, what would it be?

The power of creation, to expand the car park! There's just never enough space for all the cars coming into school.

6. What’s one message you’d like to share with students?

Stay safe and healthy. When you’re positive, it brings out the best in everyone, and students are my motivation!

7. And finally, do you have a favourite joke?

Not really a specific joke, I just like reminding everyone to be happy. That’s the best kind of humour.

We couldn’t agree more! Thank you, Mr. Vincent, for keeping our school safe and for always spreading good vibes at the gate. You're a real hero :)
