Interviewed and written by the Newsletter Team 2026

“A library is not just a room full of books; it is a doorway to curiosity, imagination, and lifelong learning.” — Miss Catharine and Ms Divya

Our school library is more than a place for books. It is a space where students can explore new worlds, discover fresh interests, and develop a lifelong love for reading. Our Newsletter Team spoke with two of our librarians, Miss Catharine and Miss Divya, to learn more about their daily work, favourite books, and what inspires them.

What do you do every day as a librarian?

As a librarian, I recommend books to students, organise and shelve books, and help plan reading experiences that encourage a love for reading and help students discover new interests.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy reading and playing the ukulele. I also like singing and playing worship songs in my free time, which helps me relax and express creativity.

If you were a book, what book would you be?

I want to be Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, a book that shares life lessons, encourages reflection, and reminds people about what truly matters.

Is there a book you think more students should discover in the library?

One book I think more students should discover is Amari and the Night Brothers. It is a fun and exciting story filled with magic, mystery, and adventure that many students would really enjoy.

What is your favourite book, and what Middleton value does it represent?

My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I think it represents resilience because the characters continue to stay strong and face challenges even during difficult times.

If you were a book, what book would you be?

If I were a book, I would be Escape from Mr Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein. This book celebrates the idea that libraries are the ultimate playground for the mind.

Enriching Learning Journey with Author Visits

Through their work, Miss Catharine and Miss Divya help make the library a welcoming place for curiosity, imagination, and learning. We thank them for sharing their stories with the Newsletter Team.

The library also creates meaningful opportunities for students to see reading and writing come to life. Together with Miss Catharine, Miss Divya, Middleton has welcomed guest authors such as Neil Humphreys, Jonathan Chan, Ames Chen and many more, giving students the firsthand experience to hear directly from writers about storytelling, creativity and the process behind a book.

These visits reinforce the role of books as valuable research and educational tools, supporting our students as they explore questions, develop inquiries and deepen their understanding of the world around them. They also reflect Middleton’s wider commitment to nurturing curiosity, communication, confidence and a love for learning beyond the classroom.
