The recent Middle School camp to Bintan was an unforgettable experience that offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a rich cultural tapestry. From the ancient maritime art of Jong School to the exhilarating Boom Netting experience, the camp provided a thrilling and educational adventure.
The Jong School, which introduced students to the traditional sailing boat racing competition, provided a fascinating glimpse into Bintan's maritime heritage. Students worked together as teams to unravel the intricacies of this age-old craft, demonstrating their ability to learn, adapt, and collaborate effectively. This experience exemplified the Middleton values of "Curiosity" and "Collaboration."
The Boom Netting experience was another highlight of the camp, generating excitement and fostering a sense of "Confidence." As students conquered this challenging obstacle, they learned the importance of "Resilience," overcoming setbacks with determination and perseverance.
The camp helped students explore their own values and discover their potential for personal growth. They realised that with the right opportunities, they could redefine their characteristics and goals. Nothing is fixed, and personal growth is a continuous journey.
Students also learned the importance of consideration, support, and teamwork through the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) project. This initiative, which provides lifelong access to sanitation, running water, and clean drinking water to individual households, empowered students to make a positive impact on the world.
The numerous experiences for each grade level, combined with the added experience of learning to be independent and navigate new environments, contributed to the great success of the camp.
Overall, the camp was a valuable experience that helped students develop essential skills, explore their values, and build lasting memories. It was a testament to the power of adventure, learning, and personal growth.
